Best Face of 2013 | IHeart Faces
My husband has to be one of the most supportive human beings on the planet and every other planet for that matter. This last year he surprised me once again and took it to a completely new level. I have spent countless hours talking about photography (composition, setups, lighting, etc...) and through it all he has listened (more like filtered) all of my excitement. This last year something magical happened. As we sat on the beach at noon watching the girls play my husband had a sudden moment of inspiration. He sat up, picked up the camera and asked "How do you use this thing?" Of course I popped up like a jack in the box and started showing him everything I knew. I didn't know how much longer this inspiration would last so I crammed his head with everything from aperture, to focal lengths, composition, depth of field, ISO, and shutter speed. I told him the conditions were not ideal for pictures (plain sun, at noon, no shade, and two girls running around). The camera had remained in the my bag up to that point.
Sure enough he ignored every single advice I gave him stood up and walked over to my oldest daughter. He said he loved the way her hair moved in the wind and he wanted to remember that moment forever. He changed his settings manually until he was comfortable with what he had. She looked up long enough to take a couple of shots and then went back to her sand castle. He snapped 2 pictures. Only 2 pictures!!! He gave me back the camera and said "ok I'm done." So much for inspiration I thought and we came home....
I didn't have any expectations as I sifted through the pictures. I then came across the most beautiful, perfect and genuine picture of our daughter I had ever seen. The hair in her face, her serious expression, her innocence, the way her eyes glisten in the light, her perfect little nose and cheeks covered with sand, and her caramel skin glowing in the sun. I stared at it and ran to my husband to hug him. He taught me a few things that day. He likes to take all of the credit but I know it was the countless hours of babble that gave him the tools he needed to snap this beautiful picture of our daughter.
